It sounds like you have a sold plan for how to anchor the 2x4 mounting strips to the wall. The main concern with heavier weights is how deep your mantel is and far away from the wall you place the object(s). If the 2x4s are secured in a way that they can hold the weight of the soundbar and the soundbar will be close to the wall, then the installation that you propose seems reasonable.
